He was one of the earliest schoolmasters in Mendon, and let us hope, the youngest for he beg an teaching at fifteen. He was pround of the distinction of having taught in his rude schoo lh ouse the alphebet to a future college president -- his own nephew, Stephen Chapin, afterwards President of Columbus College, Washington, D. C. In the Lexington Alarm of 1775 Adams shoulde red a musket. He was thirty years Justice of the Peace and died at 82 in partiel mental eclipse brought on by the death of his wife. References
