From "Welcome to Fort Valley" by Jeanette Ritenour.

In 1816, according to the Reverend Paul Henkel, a number of the Lutherans who had been worshipping at the Cross Roads Church moved into a newly created German Lutheran house of worship a few miles to the south. Located on the land given by Captain Jacob Golladay a year before, this Lutheran Meeting House stood “on the bank of the stream beside the road leading up to the mountain.”45 In 1815, the contributors to the meeting house fund were: Jacob Coverstone; John Clem, son of Dederich (“Teter”); Jacob, Peter, Daniel, and Michael Clem; several men named David Clem; Henry Walter; Henry and John Sibert; Joseph and Jacob Golladay; Adam Ridenour; John Beaker; John Conner; William Mordock; Charles Specht; and Adam ROSS. Absent from this list were any members of the Bushong, Cullers, Lichliter, and Munch families, all of whom had been affiliated with the Cross Roads Lutheran congregation from its inception. All of these lived primarily around the Cross Roads or a bit to the north and may not have wished to travel the additional distance south to the Lutheran Meeting House. There also may have been disagreements over the liturgy and / or language.
