The Adam C. King Family of Houston Co., Texas Updated September 5, 2000

I am researching the descendants of Adam Columbus (A.C.) King of Crockett, Houston County, Texas, 1850-1865/7. He was born in either Tennessee or Virginia on May 3, 1813. His parents were believed to be Adam King and Fanny Ann Glass. Adam King married Fanny Ann Glass (dau of Isaac Glass of Augusta Co., Va) on October 5th of 1805 in Augusta Co., Va. The same Adam King was also on the Blount Co., Tn tax roll for 1805. This was at least the second marriage of Adam King, a prior marriage being to Anna Maria Ott (dau of John Ott of Augusta Co., Va) on May 31, 1796 in Augusta Co., Va. It is believed Anna Maria died prior to 1805 but no record has been located. It is thought Adam King was the son of William and Mary King of Augusta Co., Va.

Prior to 1817, Adam King died, probably in Blount, Tn. In December of 1818, John Glass (son of Isaac Glass of Augusta Co., Va) obtained a judgment against the heirs of Adam King, dec; Henry King, Peggy King, Isaac King, Nancy King, and Adam King (A.C.).

Adam C. was most likely raised by an older brother, Henry King, somewhere in Tennessee. On August 15, 1837 he married Jane Catherine Bone (dau of James Peyton Bone and Catherine Sachfield Macklin)in Rutherford Co., Tn. In 1846, he moved his family to Huntsville, Walker Co., Tx where they resided until 1850. He then moved to Crockett, Houston Co., Tx until the late 1860s where he was the county corner. Sometime after the Civil War, Jane Bone died and A.C. moved to Navarro Co., Tx. He was responsible for the establishment of Presbyterian Churches in Huntsville, Crockett, and Ennis, Tx. On October 26, 1893 he died at the home of one of his sons (Dr. James C.J. King) in Waco, McLennan Co., Tx. His children were: Athelia Anna (married the Rev. S.A. King of Waco, Tx), Harriet Rebecca (married William King, Jr.), Dr James C.J. King (physician in Waco, Tx), John Bone King (relocated to the south plains of Tx), Christina Jerusha (married a William T. Coleman), David Williamson (believed to have died at an early age), Catherine Maclin (married a C.T. Hogan), Andrew Columbus Jr (died at the age of 26) and Mary Jane (died as an infant).
