birth parents: Thomas Beaney and Rebecca Dyson Adam BEANEY, his wife Sarah and their children Sarah, Rebecca, and Annie arrived in Auckland on the Matilda Wattenbach on the 8th September 1862. - Auckland Library records In a story related to June Hamilton in 1985 "Adam and Sarah BEANEY of Norwich left Gravesend on the 3rd of June 1862 and after 98 days at sea on board the 'Matilda Wattenbach' landed at the Port of Otago (Port Chalmers) on the 9th of September 1862. Son George, our Grandfather, was born in 1864 and married Mary Wood. Their children were Hilda, Ivy, Connie, Cenie (also known as Jack), Dyson, and Tom of whom only Tom is still Living. Adam founded the firm 'BEANEY and Son' in Arch Hill in Auckland. An unmarried aunt, Anncena, lived in the foundry house at Arch Hill up until the time of her death." In the annual report of the NZ Marine Department 1888 on page 3 a brief mention the during the year ended 31 March 1888, A BEANEY of Auckland had successfully tendered for the contract to construct a cast iron tower for the new lighthouse on Cuvier Island for the sum of 704 pounds 3 shillings. Also Name: Beaney, A Flourished: 1888 - 1889 Abstract: PP.1, 5. Brief mentions that the cast-iron tower for the light at Cuvier Island had been completed and landed on the island during the year ended 31 March, 1889. The contract to manufacture it had been given to A Beaney of Auckland the previous uear. According to the 1851 Census he was an apprentice iron founder at the time, aged 17 years. I have been trying to find out where it was that he served his time, they lived in St Edmunds Square Norwich. He completed his trade in engineering skills with Messrs Maudesley and Sons in London. The company was founded by Henry Maudslay as Henry Maudslay and Company in 1798 and was later reorganised into Maudslay, Sons and Field in 1833 after his sons Thomas and Joseph, as well as Joshua Field joined the company.
