Ada was a graduate of Wheaton College, Norton, MA. At her death in 1984, Warren Claff established the Ada Gilbert Claff Scholarship Fund at Thayer Academy, Braintree, MA, where both of her daughters had graduated. Her brother Alan Gilbert in the 1950's and 1960's owned Gilbert's Home Decorating store on Centre Street in Brockton. On Warren Claff's advice Alan expanded to a second store at the corner of West and Pleasant Streets, which subsequently failed, and Alan moved south.
