Wardell, Lt. Col. U.S. Army Ret. : Hornbeck, Abraham - entered service 1776 in Hampshire County, Virginia; granted Pension age 61 in Spencer County, Indiana in 1819 where he died 11/16/1834; married 4/3/1783 to Hannah, eldest daughter of William Cleaver, at her father's home at "Popular Neck", Nelson County, Kentucky (area then in Virginia); widow was born 4/3/1764; [widow] granted Pension 1842 in Spencer County, Indiana, when residing with granddaughter Hannah (age 32, wife of James Romine); died there 12/14/1842; William & Daniel eldest children; 3rd child Elizabeth born abt. 1786, married Mr. Gentry & died 9/3/1825; daughter Mary "Polly" age 43* in 1846, married 12/7/1809 to James Sallee & they resided in Bureau County, Illinois, 1846; Mary/Polly was only child who survived mother & she was granted Pension due mother; Sallee children's births: Abraham 9/5/1810, Jane 7/1/1812, Oliver 11/16/1814, Elizabeth 10/8/1816, William J. 12/7/1818, Phebe 10/19/1823 & Hannah 11/30/1832; Mrs. Letitia Cleaver made affidavit in 1845 that soldier's widow was sister of her husband; John Hornbeck, b. 1/19/1778 in Hampshire County, Virginia, made affidavit 1845 in Bullitt County, Kentucky, that he was cousin to soldier.
