Of German origin, Abraham John Goode, son of John and Jane Brown Goode, was born in 1827, at Newburgh, Orange county, New York. In 1837 the family moved to Carbon county, Pennsylvania and in 1849 to Baraboo, Wisconsin. Five years later they moved to Madison, Wisconsin, and thence to Yazoo county, Mississippi. Two years later they returned to Wisconsin. In 1860 they located in Section 36, High Forest township, Olmsted county, Minnesota.

During the Civil War, the family moved to the southeast quarter of Section 2, in Pleasant Grove township. In 1865 Abraham John Goode enlisted in Company C, 3d Minnesota Infantry and served until the end of the war, being discharged September 2, 1865.

Mrs. Abraham John Goode was the third child of seven. She was born February 13, 1834 in Cayuga county, New York. When twelve years of age, she moved with an uncle to Baraboo, Wisconsin. There she married September 25, 1851 to Abraham John Goode. Their children were: Wilbur B., Lucie E., Cora E., F. Edwin, John Paul, Martha R. and Jane E. The mother and three of the children were members of the Disciples of Christ Church in Marion village. Mrs. Goode died March 1888. Mr. Goode at the age of twenty-one became a member of the Independent Order of Odd Fellows Lodge at Rochester. He died August 16, 1893, at the farm home south of Marion.
