Abigail ye Daughter of John and Mary Whetcomb was born ye the 13 of February 1737-8.
↑Source:Whitcomb, Charlotte. Whitcomb Family in America, p. 197, says Abigail married Desire French ["published ... February 2, 1769"], but Desire French was born in 1746 so was 10 years younger, making this unlikely. TAG, Vol. 32, p. 1, has an article that corrects this identification, showing that Desire French's wife was John's niece Abigail, d/o his brother Asa Whitcomb, not John's daughter. When Desire French d. 1772 she m. (2) Benjamin Richardson and was alive in 1785 (she d. 1790, e.g. Find A Grave) so could not have been the daughter who was deceased in 1785. Unfortunately, John Whitcomb's will in 1785 names "the Heirs of Abigail my eldest daughter", but does not give her married name, and the executor posted bond to pay all legacies (so no accounting or receipts that might name those heirs is found). An Abigail Whitcomb of Lancaster m. 1758 Jonathan Osgood, but she died 1759 age 27, so too young, and her only offspring died two years later, so she left no heirs.
