Questionable Parentage

There are internet trees claiming that Abigail Cheever was a daughter of Ezekiel Cheever (1720-1793) and Sarah Phillips (1720-1784) of Middlesex County, Massachusetts, with no apparent records proving her parentage. Additional research and records are needed to determine and prove her parentage.

  • In minutes of Greenbrier Court 21 May 1783 "Sampson & Geo. Matthews vs Abigail Bracken and Robt. Knox, Admrs. Mathew Braken, in case, disc." [4]
  • In minutes of Greenbrier Court 20 Nov 1783 Abigail Bracken fined for having a base-born child. She may have had more than one "base born" child, since the dates of birth of other children who are surnamed Bracken were born after the death of her husband in 1774. [5] In the Greenbrier County court session of 20 May 1783, Abigail's daughter Rebecca Brackin was also fined for having a base-born child (Phebe Burry Bracken)[6]
