Enlisted Feb. 9, 1778 in the 1st Virginia Continental Line (Muhlenberg's Brigade) for one year of service. Private in Capt. William Cunningham's Company and later Lt. Burges Ball's Company, both under Colonel Richard Parker Present at the encampment at Valley Forge and battles of Prince Town, Brunswick, Middle Brooke, and White Plains. Mustered out Feb. 5, 1779
