Newton, Samuel

Rev. Samuel Newton, associated with Rev. Robert Nixon, was pastor of bull tail, later Well Chapel. According to Asplund, this church was established 1756, with Samuel Newton the first pastor. It was organized by him and he was the pastor untilhis death during the revolution. Newton's, Alderman's, Hefan's, Wells, Highsmith's, DeVanes and Rodgers made up a good part of the membership. Samuel Newton's widow (according to Hon. J.T. Alderman, family historian) married a Howard and moved to Georgia. Samuel left a son, Moses and a daughter, Miriam, who married a Fane.
