7 Strother family

When William Alexander Shaffer (my grandfather) visited Winnsboro 80 years after he left his home, he found the records in the Court House up to 1823, together with the records of the sale of his father (John Shaffers) farm & after Hepsibi died John Shaffer left S.C. & came to La where he settled & died of lock jaw after cutting his finger -

His daughter married ____ Archer & had one son Thomas Archer who died in ____ at Crescent Farm Terrebonne parish La with yellow fever.

Hepsibi Elizabeth (Shaffer) Archer married 2nd John Ferguson Wood of Ithica N.Y. no issue - she died & was buried in Shelbyville Ky on the Stuart[?] lot & John F Wood was also buried there when he died in 1887.

William Alexander Shaffer son of Hepsibah Strother & John Shaffer married Melitte Bourgeois of La & they lived & died on their sugar plantation Crescent Farm in La raised a big family & was a great financial success - his oldest son was [continued on 8]

Capt John Jackson, Capt 26 La Regiment Co F (my father)

A William D Strother of Ga Served as Captain in the 2nd Ga regiment from 1776 to Nov 24, 1778 when he was killed at Midway Church.

The night before my grandfather W A Shaffer (9 years old) left Winnsboro S.C. with his father John Shaffer for La a baby was born to William Strothers wife and named Dargan Strother.

John Shaffer let his sister (Mrs. Pope) take his little daughter Hepsibi Elizabeth (who married J. F. Wood) to Miss. later he came on with his boy William Alexander Shaffer a boy of 9 - his wife Hepsibi (Strother) Shaffer had died in Winnsboro (Twon[?] have a cane cut from Hepsibis grave by her son 80 years after he left Winnsboro to make his home in La. [no close parens]

After Hepsibis death John Shaffer sold his farm in 1803 and the records were there up to 1823 (about)

Perhaps Hepsibais mother was a Mrs Dargan or Alexander - (no her brother William married a Dargan)

Woodville Miss. or near she was well off with many slaves - she stopped with her caravan in Tenn, rented a place and made a crop of corn little Hepsibi Shaffer was 4 years old when her brother William Alexander Shaffer came to Miss with his father John Shaffer. They had journied on ponies from SC to Miss

he saw the broken place on the door jamb [?]y a time where Aunt Strother hit at the British Soldier -

There are Strothers who held minor positions in S.C. during the Revolution (see Journal of General Assembly of S.C. March 26, 1776 page 89 - Columbia S.C.) also Journal Sept 17,1776 Oct 10-20-1776 page 174 Documents relating to the history of S.C. during Rev Columbia S.C.1908page 118 stub entries in debts issued in payment of claims against S.C. growing out of Rev book 1770 page - Book o S Columbia S.C. 1915[or 6?] p 333 J[?]D Strother of Columbus S.C. moved from Fairfield Co near Winnsboro

Also a Mr & Mrs Leon Dargan at Dallas Texas (his brother [Milton overwritten]& sister Clara Dargan of Atlanta Ga) I met years ago at the [illegible possibly Lookout Tenn] [illegible possibly Lewis] he was in the insurance business with Earnest Breman[sp?] Boyd husband of Jeffie Holding
