Merrill Willis (son of McKinzie) had apparently promised to take care of McKinzie and his new wife but was unable to do so as he was broke himself. McKinzie took him to court. Mary Ann "Polly" Logsdon, McKinzie's 1st wife died in 1860, and McKinzie married Ann Alcorn (it's said. But we know he remarried), in 1861. The date of the court hearing I attached is 1865, so he had to have died after that. So I think it is safe to say, he died between 1865 and after. There is a document I think I have, that goes on to say (Merrill said) that he has return from the war to find his father had remarried and he is unable to take care of his own family or something of that sort. I will try to find it so I can prove it. But this document I have attached shows McKinzie was still alive in 1865. Merrill was my 2nd great Grandfather and McKinzie was my 3rd. My Father is a Willis. 2/4/2013: McK is my GGGG Grandfather and Merrill my GGG Grandfather. We have copy of same court record. We clean up Merrill's cemetery approx once per decade. In support of the story of this court record, our family was told that Merrill's cabin was burned by Confederate sympathizers while he was in service with Union, so that was why he was broke. I am a Willis in Illinois through Merrill's son William Sydney Willis. Hope it was OK to add this to help round out the picture. I never knew this site existed until about 20 minutes ago. Will watch tutorial this weekend and try to learn more about its usage.
