My dear Nephew: My knowledge of our family history is very meager. Your mother, who was the eldest of my father's family, was better informer in this respect than any of the rest of us.

My father, who was a native of Pennsyvania of Scotch descent, was born April 4, 1784. His mother, Mary Reynolds (Laird) who was twice married died June 24 1835, in her 80th year. I have no information as to my grandfather on my father's side. They were Presbyterians.

My mother's maiden name was Phoebe Ford. She wasborn Aug. 21, 1789. Her father's name, I believe was Philip. My information is that they were natives of Virginia, of English descent. They were Methodists. I have no information as to my mother's mother. One of this Ford family was Governor of Ills. I have always understood that our ancestors on both sides, were active participants in the RevolutionaryWar.

My father's family of children were: Mary Brown, born June 16, 1815; John, born April 5, 1818; James Mc; born Nov 6 1819; Jesse Wesley, born February 20 1822; and Rachel Cloud born March 23, 1825. I am the only survivor.

I hope this information slight as it is,may be of service to you. I must congratulate you on the glorious work in which you are engaged, and I pray that you may have many souls for your hire. With assurance of regard, your uncle,
J. W. Laird
