Mervin Haines, Aviation Machinist's Mate Second Class, U.S.N.R., 645 Tyler Street, Marion, Ohio is serving aboard a support carrier attached to the Pacific Fleet. Haines' excellent work in the vital job of aircraft instrument maintenance and repair has contributed greatly to the success of the composit squadron of which he is a member.

He saw action with his hard-hitting squadron which helped put the Army ashore on Luzon Island at Lingayen Gulf and Subic Bay. More recently it participated in the support of Marine landings in Iwo Jima.

The 20-year-old bluejack is the son of Harley Haines of the Marion address and enlisted in the Navy in January 1943.
