Watchers

9 Apr 2017 Notes from RC: Photograph was in the collection of Vernon R. Kill and sent to RC by his daughter, Vera. On the back of photo is written, "Laddona, Alice, Gale." LaDonna Savidge (1926-2013), Alice Kill (1924-2000) and Gail Reynolds (1925-2004) were grandchildren of Samuel & Nettie Louth Savidge. RC believes that this photo was taken on their farm on West Union Road. Melissa Carpenter Louth was Nettie's mother and RC believes that she is the old woman in the photo. RC's grandmother, Violet Reynolds, recalled that Melissa lived away from the area with her children for a number of years but then returned to Spencer Township "when her money ran out." For a time Melissa lived with Violet's family around the corner from Samuel & Nettie's farm on Kill Road. Melissa then moved into Spencerville where she died at the home of her daughter, Lucy. Violet recalled that Melissa walked with a cane in each hand. Gail, Violet's youngest brother, was stricken with polio when he was very young. In this photo he is sitting in a chair.
