Horatio Gates Trout was the son of a school teacher. Gates was born in Northumberland County Pennsylvania, November 16, 1829, and was twelve year old when his father died (1841). For this reason he had little schooling and was apprenticed to a tailor when quite young. In his late teens he came to Lancaster, Ohio, and continued to be a tailor for the rest of his life. [edit] ResearchGates waslisted as the son of John TROUT ABT 1769, Northumberland, PA; however, there's some problems with this. First, John died in 1862. Second, he was engaged in manufacturing and not teaching. Third, he doesnt mention Gates or any of the other Hester children or wife in his Will. Though, unproving it seems the only other son of his grandfather Balthazar Traut, Sr. that is most likely is Jacob. Thanks to the researcher done by Craig Trout, it is now believed that John TROUT, ABT 1802-1841 Northumberland County, PA is probably Gate's father. There currently isnt any link to him but the only clue is he died at the right time and was living in the area. It makes me wander if teaching is in the genes... seeing that is what I enjoy doing... His Mother: Hester Pursel 15 MAY 1803 Hunterdon County, NJ. I would love to discover more of this remarkable woman who rsised Gates and his brothers and sisters. His wife: Ruth CARD [edit] PicturesHoratio 9-11-1899 50th wedding aniversary |
