Parkers/Wiliams [19 February 2017]
Can someone with access to the Parker book (or other evidence) make the case, or lack thereof, that Hannah's name is Williams? Based on the little of that book I can see on Google, there's no proof, and the 1719 will that's used to argue in the text on Thomas's page that Hannah was alive then, does not name her as Woodmansee. --Amelia 17:26, 18 February 2017 (UTC)
- Page 3 of the book (n.b. by Leo Garman) states explicitly that the maiden name of Hannah has not been learned. On that basis it would make sense to rename her to 'Hannah Unknown'. n.b. it also breaks the list of children into one, Thomas, probably from Hannah; seven, Sarah thru Lydia, ambiguous; and four, Abigail thru James, probably from Mary. I guess we could indicate that on WR by constructing a middle family with 'Unknown Unknown' and appropriately document what we mean to convey by that.
- Pages 21-22 of the book (n.b. by Edith Sachs and Janet Parker) do give some evidence for the surname Williams and parentage John Williams and Elizabeth. The main support is an unsourced assertion by John Dornan. In addition, for sure John Williams and Elizabeth did have a daughter Hannah as per the 1719 will. The most compelling link, but still circumstantial, between that Hannah and the wife of Thomas Woodmansee is that Sarah Woodmansee was a witness, there named as daughter of Thomas and Hannah, to the wedding of Anthony Woodward and Constance Williams the youngest daughter as per the 1719 will of John Williams and Elizabeth. There is an additional circumstantial link in that George Williams, one of the executors of Thomas Woodmansee's will, could have been the George who was son of John and Elizabeth.
- (Of course, if the Hannah mentioned in the 1719 will was not the wife of Thomas, her appearance in the will does not constitute evidence that Hannah Woodmansee was alive in 1719.)
- For completeness, the section describing the 1719 will specifies that it "names a son George Williams, as well as sons John, Judah, and Daniel; his 'eldest daughters [no last names] Hannah, Elizabeth, Lydia, Margaret;' and last, his daughter Constance".
