[add comment] [edit] Identity of wife [25 June 2011]According to Robert Charles Anderson in the Great Migration series, Elizabeth Swift d. 1657, and the death record names her as Elizabeth Swift (i.e., unmarried). Thomas Swift's will, dated 26 Apr 1675, unfortunately only refers to his son Obadiah's "sisters" so that is no help, but various sources seems to agree on her death in 1657 (such as Source:Swift, Joseph Gardner. Memoirs of Gen. Joseph Gardner Swift, LL.D., U.S.A., First Graduate of the United States Military Academy, West Point, where I found a copy of Thomas Swift's will). So I removed her from this page. Source:American Genealogist (D.L. Jacobus), p. 23:129, "John Webb of Northampton", by Fred C. Warner, John Webb m. (2) 16 Oct 1667 Elizabeth Swift, whom he identifies without providing any evidence, as the daughter of Thomas Swift. John Webb's first wife d. Northampton 26 Aug 1667 [Northampton VR]. He d. 19 May 1670 [Northampton VR] and the article says Elizabeth m. (2) Robert Dants. He d. 1691, she d. 1692. If would seem that this Elizabeth was younger than John Webb who is said to have been born about 1615, as she had two children after her marriage to him, but named neither one Thomas, even though John Webb had no sons named Thomas by his previous marriage. --Jrich 12:43, 25 June 2011 (EDT) |
