Family talk:Robert Clements and Lydia Unknown (1)

From Robert Clement and Unknown (2): Robert Clement's First Wife [20 February 2012]

"Greeley states the name of the 1st wife of Robert Clement, the immigrant is unknown. The source for Lydia Drummer is in my opinion spurious and I am following Greely, pending more scholarly research."

In the Clements genealogy, Mr. Clements states that Robert Clements married, "first, before 1615, Lydia (-----), who was buried at Ansley, Warwickshire, 12 Mar. 1642, and secondly, before 1657, Judith (-----), who married after his death, John Whitney(*) of Watertown, Mass., and died in 1669." I'd like to compare that statement with whatever "Greeley" said, but there is not enough information given to lead me to that source. I do agree that there appears to be no credible evidence of "Drummer" or any other surname for Lydia, his first wife.--jaques1724 21:04, 20 February 2012 (EST)

"Greeley" refers to Robert Clements of Haverhill, Massachusetts, and Some of His Descendants, a rather brief article first published in Vol. 47 (1911) of the Historical Collections of the Essex Institute. The two volume Clements genealogy, compiled by Mary Lovering Holman and published in 1921 is much to be preferred to the Greeley article.--jaques1724 17:50, 10 December 2012 (EST)
