Family talk:Richard Denton and Helen Windlblank (1)

Which Richard Denton? [28 July 2013]

Several genealogies indicate that the Rev Richard Denton who immigrated to New England in the 1630's and returned to England to die there in 1662 was married to Helen (or Eleanor) Windebank, with marriage dates anywhere from 1611 to 1625. His birth date is usually given as about 1586.

Other genealogies indicate that the Rev Richard Denton was born about 1603 (based on his records at Cambridge) and that his wife was not mentioned in any New England records, nor the baptismal records of his children.

There are articles about the descendants of Rev Richard Denton in the 1989 and 1990 issues of New York Genealogical and Biographical Record (NYG&BR), which do not appear to be online for consultation. I do not know if these articles resolve his birth year and marriage.

I am going to assume that:
1) There was a Richard Denton born about 1586 who married Helen Windebank (maybe in 1611).
2) This is not the same Richard Denton as the one who graduated from Cambridge in 1623, had children between 1624 and about 1636, immigrated to New England in the 1630's, and then returned to England about 1659 (for whom a 1603 birth year fits much better).

Therefore, I am unlinking the Rev Richard Denton (d. 1662) from the marriage to Helen Windlblank. If anyone has a chance to check out the NYG&BR articles, please make corrections and add notes as appropriate.--DataAnalyst 09:24, 28 July 2013 (EDT)
