Family talk:Jonathan Haines and Sarah Moulton (1)

From Jonathan Haynes and Mary Moulton (1): This marriage never existed [27 June 2011]

In Source:TAG, p. 23:110-112, Donald Jacobus shows that the only rational explanation of this marriage [Jonathan to Mary Moulton] is that it is an error of the town clerk of Newbury while recording Jonathan and Sarah's marriage. In short, the date 1 Jan 1674 should be interpreted 1 Jan 1674/75 and would be after the date of his marriage to Sarah not before. Mary is reported to have died in 1664. It would have been considered tantamount to incest in the English colonies to marry the sister of one's wife. Jonathan Haines had only one wife and it was Sarah. He never married Mary Moulton. I am going to merge this page into the marriage with Sarah with all trace of Mary being thrown away. --Jrich 00:42, 28 June 2011 (EDT)
