They certainly look like the same people to me, what is your rationale?--Scot 22:20, 27 May 2009 (EDT)

Could this marriage date be incorrect (1665)since child Mary was bp in 1649 ? There is a long email on GenForum CHURCHILL (message 2615 by Malcolm Churchill titled 'No Mary Towsey After All') as to the identity of Mary CATLIN - apparently there were 3 Mary CATLIN's b 1646, 1649 and 1666, each with different parents....1646 Mary died young, 1666 Mary m John Burnham and 1649 Mary is the best candidate for Joseph Churchill's wife. It seems that this John CATLIN & Mary MARSHALL were parents of the Mary who m John BURNHAM if the marriage date for them is correct.

Could we all look at this message and come to a conclusion of sorts ? I believe the Mary we need here is a dau of a Thomas CATLIN, but not positive. Probably needs more research. --Neal Gardner 15:59, 28 July 2009 (EDT)

Neal, posting 2615 is the last of 10 postings between Dennis and Malcolm Churchill where they vacillated as to the probable truth. After studying the discussion it is apparent that yes she was the daughter of Thomas and John was her brother. John's dau Mary b 1666 married John Burnham and Thomas Catlin's daughter christened 1649 married Joseph Churchill. Joseph was the son of Josiah and Elizabeth Foote Churchill. Their grandson Josiah married Elizabeth Towsey in 1706. Note that her tombstone inscription states she died in 1751 in her 70th year, which means she was 69 at her death and was b between Oct 29, 1681 and Oct 27 1682 not a year earlier as stated by Malcolm in post 2608.--Scot 15:40, 29 July 2009 (EDT) Here are the entries from Barbour, Hartford: CATLING, CATTELLING, CATTELING

John, son Thomas, m Mary MARSHALL, July 27, 1665* (*Perhaps "1663") Mary, bap Nov 29, 1646 Mary, dau Thomas, bap May 6, 1649 Mary, dau John, b July 10, 1666 Mary, wife John, died Oct 20, 1716 Mary, dau Samuell & Elizabeth, b Mar 26, 1717

Hi, Scot.. Thanks for the quick reply. I did read the whole tennis match between Malcolm and Dennis. Should we change the parentage of Mary CATLIN ? Since this is not documented "proof"... any ideas on how to source...if at all, for now ? --Neal Gardner 16:46, 29 July 2009 (EDT)

The genealogy in the Deerfield history clearly indicates that Mary, daughter of John and Mary (Baldwin) Catlin is the one who married Thomas French and who died as a result of the 29 February 1703/04 Deerfield raid. Barbour's Early Hartford families clearly indicates that Mary, the daughter of John and Mary (Marshall) Catlin is the one who married John Burnham of Hartford and died 13 December 1730 [TAG 67:44 (1992)].--jaques1724 23:14, 6 April 2015 (UTC)
