Challenges [5 January 2025]
The notes on the family page will explain some of the difficulties I have had with the Bottomleys. Not only did John give inaccuracies on his marriage record, but finding the details for Jane Sykes was very difficult. I only came upon this family while tracing Sarah Hinchliffe.
The 1841 census entry (with surname transcribed as Battomley) was only found after writing this note.
With the exception of the eldest daughter, Ann, all the baptisms stated the children's parents were John Bottomley and Sarah.
There is always the possibility that there were two couples in the area named John and Sarah Bottomley.

- There were indeed challenges, including the existence of two couples named John and Sarah Bottomley, both with a son named Benjamin, born about 1845, and two John Bottomley's with daughters Ann born about 1830 (and a missing baptism record for Ann, the daughter of Sarah).
- Just a note: John Bottomley, the husband of Sarah Hinchliffe, didn't give his father's name (James) incorrectly in his marriage record, as the John Bottomley whose father was Robert (1851 census) married Sarah Kay.
- I have the John and Sarah Bottomley's sorted out - the other couple is Family:John Bottomley and Sarah Kay (1). I will continue my work with John Bottomley and Jane Sykes, who are the subject of an entirely different set of census records.--DataAnalyst 21:39, 5 January 2025 (UTC)
- Family:John Bottomley and Jane Sykes (1) is done - just the immediate family, to avoid potential confusion in the future.--DataAnalyst 01:42, 6 January 2025 (UTC)
