Why was daughter detached? [12 February 2023]
Datanalyst,
I received notification of a change you just made to this profile, detaching the following:
<child title="Deißlingen, Württemberg, Germany. Kirchenbuch, 1813-1882" given="Anna Barbara" surname="Jauch" birthdate="15 DEC 1838" birthplace="Deißlingen, Württemberg, Germany" deathdate="8 APR 1910" deathplace="Schwenningen, Württemberg, Germany"/>
- Anna Barbara Jauch, b 15 Dec 1838 Dießlingen... d 8 Apr 1910 Schwenningen
Could you please explain why you detached her? Many thanks.

- Hi. This was a really weird situation, but the quick answer is that there is no Person page for Anna Barbara Jauch, and even if there was, this Family page thought that its title was "Person:Deißlingen, Württemberg, Germany. Kirchenbuch, 1813-1882", which is obviously incorrect. The link was showing up in red (broken link) on the Family page, and I am cleaning these up so that Dallan and I can do some other fixes we have planned. I can't find any trace of a Person page for Anna on WeRelate, so the only way to fix this is to create her Person page and link her to to the family.
- The longer answer is:
- WeRelate stores a limited amount of redundant information on the Family page for each family member. This is why, if you look at the history of the Family page (https://www.werelate.org/w/index.php?title=Family:Johannes_Jauch_and_Anna_Jaeckle_%281%29&oldid=15541881), it shows the information that was in the notification you got (Anna Barbara Jauch, born 15 Dec 1838 in Deißlingen, Württemberg, Germany, died 8 Apr 1910 in Schwenningen, Württemberg, Germany).
- This redundant information exists even if the Person page doesn't. If a Person page is deleted, all their information is supposed to be removed from the Family page, but due to a bug in the past, this didn't always happen.
- There also seem to be cases where the GEDCOM upload process generated the Family page with the redundant information, but for some reason failed to create the Person page. This might have been what happened in this case. Or bad data got created due to a bug and then cleaned up behind the scenes.
- At any rate, whatever happened back in 2010, in 2023 the Family page had a broken link to a Person page that doesn't exist, so I removed it.
- My change had nothing to do with whether or not I thought the data was correct - it is purely a data cleanup job to address broken links.
- Unfortunately, if there once were sources for Anna's information, WeRelate doesn't have them now. Hopefully you still have sources in your desktop software or can find them again, so that you can create her page with sources.
- I hope this answers your question. Let me know if you need more information. And thanks for reaching out and asking.--DataAnalyst 19:32, 11 February 2023 (UTC)
- DataAnalyst, thanks for the back story. I have a vague recollection of how WR handles marriage data differently than data about individuals. I'm certain that this data came from my offline database, the backup of which is sitting on some hard drive somewhere in my home office... Thanks again. Jillaine 18:10, 12 February 2023 (UTC)
