Marriage at gemeente level [15 September 2012]

Hi Beatrijs, I removed Finkum as the place of marriage for Jan and Trijntje. After 1816, marriages were recorded at the gemeente (or grietenij) level. Before that, in the DTB's, the specific town is listed. --Jennifer (JBS66) 19:24, 10 September 2012 (EDT)

Thanks for letting me know, I did not realize that at all. Have been looking at original scans only, to search for the town of marriage.--Beatrijs 23:07, 10 September 2012 (EDT)

Coming back to this topic: Is marriage in Leeuwarderadeel the only province where we have to write: Grietenij?--Beatrijs 02:17, 15 September 2012 (EDT)

Leeuwarderadeel is not a province but a number of small villages in the province Friesland. For Grietenij, please use Google and select the English version and I hope it will be clear.--BenS 06:24, 15 September 2012 (EDT)

There is a bit more information about Grietenij here on Wikipedia. It's not really a term that you need to use when entering data on WR. In fact, the place pages on WR just say Gemeente. When entering marriage data throughout the province of Friesland, if the marriage took place after 1816, it would not be recorded at the town level, but rather the gemeente/grietenij. --Jennifer (JBS66) 06:58, 15 September 2012 (EDT)
