Marriage of Heinrich or Henry and Minna [23 April 2013]

The 1900 census does show that the length of the present marriage is 35 years, giving an indication that this couple was married in 1865 However, this is contradicted by the statement in Henry's obituary that "He was married the first time in Germany to Louisa Unruhof, and she died in this country in 1874. Two years later Mr. Scharf married miss Minnie Sherman." As a further complication, there are two marriage records in La Porte County records; on 8 September 1865 for Henry Scharf and Louisa Wuerdenhof, and on 12 April 1875 for Henry Scharf and Mina Schonau. My present theory is that Henry and Louisa were wed in Mecklenburg before he emigrated to the US in 1863. After she joined him is the US, for some reason they thought it best to have a record of their marriage in the US.--AZeller 21:30, 23 April 2013 (EDT)
