Family talk:Edmund Sherman and Grace Makin (1)

Perhaps Joan Makin was the sister of Tobias, I have her birth as 1575 and her husband as Edmund Sherman. whereas I have Grace b 1590 as the wife of John Sherman. I have 7 different John Sherman's and 5 Edmunds in my file, all apparently descendants of Henry and Susan Lawrence Sherman. It seems that Philip Sherman of RI also traces back to Dedham.--Scot 13:10, 21 April 2008 (EDT)

Robert Charles Anderson [The Great Migration VI:284] in the sketch of this Edmund Sherman, says "MARRIAGE: By 1599 Grace Makin, daughter of Tobias Makin [Michael J. Wood, private communication]. She was living on 14 June 1643 when her husband's half-brother Samuel Sherman made a bequest to "my loving sister Sherman Edmond's widow" [PCC (Prerogative Court of Canterbury) 14 Rivers; Waters 1178-79]). There are three Sherman sketches in Vol. VI: This Edmund; John, son of John and Grace Ravens (who later married Thomas Rogers, then Roger Porter) first cousin once removed of Edmund; and Richard, brother of Edmund. In addition, there is a sketch of Philip Sherman in Vol. III of The Great Migration Begins. He was also a first cousin once removed of Edmund. The Sherman marriage pages need some work, but I don't want to touch them until I've had a chance to review a piece in TAG 62:76-77 (hopefully sometime this week) which apparently clarifies the marital career of Grace Ravens and may be a pivot point for straightening out some of these other Sherman marriages.--Jaques1724 21:14, 22 May 2011 (EDT)
