[add comment] [edit] Elizabeth and Mary: Children of Ebenezer and Mary? [5 November 2009]Early children of Ebenezer and Mary are not clearly documented in Arnold's Vital Records, but there is some good evidence to indicate Elizabeth (b. 6 Jan 1676) and Mary (b. June 1679) are Ebenezer and Mary's daughters. See Source:Vital Record of Rhode Island, 1636-1850, Jamestown Births and Deaths, p. 26, where the list of early Slocum births begins with Elizabeth. Is there another Slocum family in Jamestown at this time who are thought to be Elizabeth and Mary's parents? The later Mary (b. 14 Sep 1693) is noted in the Slocum genealogy as Mercy and her death is shown in Arnold as under the name Mercy (d. Jan 14, 1714) See also, Jamestown Marriages, p. 9: "Greene ___ and Mary Slocum; m. by Ebenezer Slocum, Warden, Jan. 7 1698" and in Torry's New England Marriages "Green, David (1677-) & 1/wf Mary SLOCUM (1679-); 7 Jan 1698, 3 Jan 1698/9; Jamestown, RI {RI VR 7:19, 33; Greene (1903) 65, 88-9; Slocum 5; Shotwell 42; Boddie 112; Reg. 34:393; Thurston (1892) 519}" Regarding Elizabeth, see Source:New England Historical and Genealogical Register Vol 37 p 276, "Marriages in Warwick, R.I.," "Peter Greene (s. of James) and Elizabeth Slocum of Quononacal, now Conanicut (d. of Ebinezer) on Feby 12, 1695-6."--Brenda (kennebec1) 23:27, 4 November 2009 (EST) |
