Which Ebenezer [19 March 2016]

There were 2 Ebenezer Doud's born within months of each other in Guilford:

the son of John and Mary (Bartlett) Doud was born Dec 1706

the son of Thomas and Silence (Evarts) Doud was born Apr 1707

W W Dowd claims that it was the latter who married Mary and had 3 children: Ebenezer, Timothy and Lydia. He could not provide any details on the former, including the name of his wife.

Is there counter-evidence to indicate that it was the former who married Mary and had the 3 children? I could not find any journal article (in AmericanAncestors) that addresses this.

I suppose another possibility, given the closeness of the birth dates of the children, is that both Ebenezer's married Mary's and 2 children belong to one couple and the the third to the other. The VR's are not helpful in providing an answer.

At any rate, if there is no evidence to contradict W W Dowd, then WeRelate should probably follow Dowd.--DataAnalyst 22:03, 19 March 2016 (UTC)

I agree that WW Doud's book is full of errors and lacking in sources. I conducted a search for Timothy in Finda w/o success, looked for a will or probate for Ebenezer, but nothing free online. I think accepting WW's 1745/6 for Timothy and 1748 for Lydia, with the Guilford VRs as Alt Births is prudent, until & unless something else disproves WW Dowd.--SkippyG 23:32, 19 March 2016 (UTC)

I have switched this marriage to the second Ebenezer Doud above. Now the question is which Ebenezer the death info (aft 9 Mar 1752) belongs with. I didn't change it because I'm not prepared to make that much of a judgment call right now.--DataAnalyst 01:39, 21 March 2016 (UTC)
