Family talk:David Stratton and Nancy Mullins (1)

Intent of two wives? [18 October 2012]

It appears that David Stratton was married twice? Having two wives on page, if it's not a temporary edit, should only be done if you don't know which of two people is the wife in a given family (and then the situation should be explained on the page). If the children can't be divided up, they can be listed with multiple parents. If you need help splitting up this family, I'm happy to help.--Amelia 01:23, 8 October 2012 (EDT) (volunteer admin)

Thanks Amelia. It looks like David Stratton was married twice. I'm sure he divorced his first wive then married Nancy. I just can't find and divorce records yet. Is there an ideal way to show that these are separate marriages and that the children from the list come from his first marriage with Nannie?--Jas7chip 22:11, 9 October 2012 (EDT)

Hi. The way you show this is to have two different family Pages. On David's page, use the "Add spouse and children" link and follow the prompts to search for then add a family for David and Anna Tipton (or whatever her proper name is). It will ask you if you want to create a page for Anna Tipton. Put in Anna Tipton born West Virginia and see if the search will come up with the page you created for her (Person:Unknown Tipton (4)). If not, cancel out and edit the family page you just created to have Person:Unknown Tipton (4) as the wife. Add whichever children you think are David and Anna's. Then go back to this page (David and Nancy), and edit to remove Anna and her children. Good luck and if you have questions, let me know.--Amelia 00:40, 18 October 2012 (EDT)

Thank you! I was able to correct the marriages.--Jas7chip 01:33, 18 October 2012 (EDT)
