Should we disconnect these parents and changing her maiden name to Tilton?--RolandHenryBakerIII 16:03, 1 June 2016 (UTC)
- I think so - making appropriate notes to try to help anyone coming along later to understand - and explicitly indicating older reference works that perpetuate the error. We also might consider use of assertion templates that mark the former state of things as having been disproved/refuted. --jrm03063 16:21, 1 June 2016 (UTC)
- I've renamed and added refutation assertions. Please support the refutation facts with your source, in both the family here and the refuted Hannah. Presumably you should add a narrative note too - indicating what older reference content is considered obsolete.
- Does all that seem right to you?
- BTW - some people consider the refutation templates (as they currently display) rather ugly. Please feel free to suggest a better appearance - or work on the templates directly if you feel comfortable! --jrm03063 16:29, 1 June 2016 (UTC)
- Maybe we should actually read things a little more carefully. The Hannah Freeman (that was) listed here is not the daughter of John Freeman and Mercy Prence. Perhaps collecting evidence would be called for so we're not blowing in the wind of every passing assertion. --Jrich 16:35, 1 June 2016 (UTC)
- It's a wiki - we iterate on the last best knowledge. Becoming gun shy of attempting to make updates is a greater sin by far. --jrm03063 18:53, 1 June 2016 (UTC)
- Making updates without evidence is not iterating on "knowledge". It is guessing based on other guesses, and guessing wrong usually makes things look less like the truth that the mistake that was there before. --Jrich 20:55, 1 June 2016 (UTC)
