Historical note:
Nathaniel Waterman(3) was a son of Nathaniel2 and Susannah (Carder) Waterman, and a grandson of Richard Waterman(1), one of the original proprietors of Providence, Rhode Island. Nathaniel(3) married Mary Olney in 1692. Two of their sons were Joseph(4) and Zuriel(4) (1701?-1755?). Zuriel(4), called “Jr.” to distinguish him from his first cousin born two years earlier, married Anne Warner. He was a justice of the peace for Providence from 1738 to 1755, and for Cranston in May, 1755. Among his and Anne’s children were Zuriel(5) (c1729-1785) who married Rebecca Potter; Elizabeth(5), who married Benjamin Sprague, Jr. of Cranston; and William(5) (c. 1728-1763), who married Deliverance Thornton. William(5) and Deliverance also had a son Zuriel(6) (“Jr.”) (1755?-1825), who married Ruth Dyer in 1783. Zuriel and Ruth had a son Zuriel(7) (1797-1875).
