1850 Census: Annotated, compiled by John P. Alderman (1979) William was probably descendedfrom some of the Quaker Sumners who settled here and then moved away. Catherine was the daughter of Annuel and Mary Edwards and first married James McClure in 1813. McClure died not long afterwards and in 1814 she remarried William Sumner. William died in 1856 and Catherine survived him several years. There were twelve children.
