The only marriage in Co. Durham of William Ramsey between 1841 when he was single and 1851 when he was a widower is in Sunderland he married Dorothy Best, Elizabeth Hewart, Hannah Kelly or Henrietta Smiles.

William Ramsay married in South Shields in 1846 Hannah Anderson, Ann Jefferson, Ann Ord or Jane Purvis. Or in Gateshead 1845 Elizabeth Coulson, Mary Sutherland, Catharine Tate or Anne Watson.

There was a birth and a death in the name Mary Ann Ramsay in March 1848, it may be that Mary Sutherland was the Mary Ann that died in childbirth and that Mary living with her father and grandparents in 1851 was the Mary Ann born, inheriting her mothers name. More research needed.
