On 5 June 1917,[2] William signed a card (as “William E. Perry”) for the first registration of the WW I draft. William, a typist for the Department of Commerce, supported a wife, but he did not claim an exemption. The registrar's report describes him as medium height, medium build, blue eyes, and brown hair.
On 26 April 1942,[3] William signed a card (as “William E. Perry”) for the fourth registration of the WW II draft. William gave the name of his wife, Mrs. Emilie N. Perry, and stated that he was working for the U.S. Veterans Administration, and they were residing in Silver Spring, Montgomery co., Maryland. The registrar's report describes him as 5'8½" height, 167 lbs. weight, gray eyes, gray hair, dark complexion, and having a scar over his right eye.
