Whereas William Newby son of William Newby & Sarah Overman daughter of Isaac Overman of the County of Randolph & State of No. Carolina; Having said their Intentions of taking each other in marriage before several monthly meetings of the People and Quakers in the County aforesaid, with hose proceeding therein after Deliberate Consideration & having Consent of parent ~ of parties concerned ~ and appearing clear of any others, where approved of by he said meetings ~ Now for a full accomplishment of their said marriage these are to Certify; that they the said William Newby & Sarah Overman appeared at a publick assembly of the aforesaid people met together, at Back Creek Meeting house, in the County aforesaid & according to the good order used amongst them, he the said William Newby taking the said Sarah Overman by the hand Declared as followeth, or words to this effect: Friends you are my witnesses that I take this my friend Sarah Overman to be my wife; Promising through divine assistance to be here a true & loving husband untill death seperate us: Likewise she the said Sarah Overman having the said William Newby ty the hand Declared as followeth, or words to this effect; Friends you are my sitnesses that I take this my friend William Newby, to be my husband; Promising through Divine assistance, to be to him a truw & loveing wife untill Death seperate us.
And for a further Confirmation hereof they the said William Newby & Sarah Newby his now wife she according to the us__ practice in marriage assuming the name of her husband, have to these Presents set their hands & we whose names are underwriten being present at their said Marriage & Subscripton, have in Witness subscribed our Names, this fourth Day of the First month, 1804.
