In honor of the golden wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. W.A. Meares, 150 of the friends called recently at their Moreno Valley home. Among the guest from Wilimington, Long Beach, Banning, Beaumont, San Jacinto Valley, Perris Valley and Riverside Valley, Howard Meares of Riverside, Melvin Meares of Los Angeles and Mrs Ruth Finch of Oakland, Paul Meares was unable to Attend. Mr and Mrs. Meares were Married Oct 16, 1901 in Pineville Mo, and came to California with their 6 children in 1914, settling in Moreno Valley. Both have taken an active part in the community. In addition to ranching, they owned and operated the Moreno General Store and Post Office, where Mrs Meares was post mistress for many years. They owned and operated the school bus and for many years had the Star Mail Route between Moreno Valley and Riverside. Mr. Meares was also Justice of the Peace for twelve years. All their children attended and graduated from Moreno School. They now have 13 grandchildren and one great grandchild. The large arrangements of yellow gladioli and chrysanthemums decorated the room and potted plants were effectively placed throughout the house. Mrs finch, the couples only daughter, assisted her parents in greeting the guests and with unwrapping the many gifts they recieved at the celebration. Assisting Mrs. Meares in serving, were her daughters-in-law, Mmes. Cecil, Paul, Eldon and Howard Meares. Lorna Meares, granddaughter of the celebrants, circulated the guest book.*
