  2. This couple appears to have had trouble naming their sons. Two of the first four sons were not named in the birth register. The other two were given names that appear to have been changed later. There is no evidence that either of these two had twins (the fourth son is listed in the birth register as the fifth child of this mother) - it appears that they were registered under one name and then given another by the time of the 1900 census. Birth certificates were issued under their new names (in one case many years later).

    The original name for their second son was George (the name of William's younger brother). It is possible that William had a falling out with his family and changed the name of his son(s) accordingly.

    Note that in the birth certificate issued for French Jennings (fifth living son), the mother indicates that she had 8 children (including French), one of whom had died. I could find neither a birth nor a death record for the child who died, but it must have been born after Robert (1899), who the birth register indicates was her fifth child.
