It took decades for me to solve the relationship between my grandfather, James Wesley Crain and Julia Black Horn. We all knew that they knew that they were cousins--but none of my relatives and none of Julia's descendants who remained in Hamilton knew what that relationship was. Both James Wesley Crain and Julia Black Horn were gg grandchildren of Joel Crain (grandfather of your Joel Burditt Crain) and his first wife. The Horns lived between the town of Hamiltonand the community of Blue Ridge and we passed their home each time we went totown. One wall of their rock barn remained erect for decades following their deaths. Did you know that James Black enlisted Sept. 21, 1861 in the Confederate Army in Waco, McLennan, TX? Randall Hill allowed me to borrow a copyof his Patience/James letters many years ago, before we had access to copiers. After Randal left Hamilton to go treasure hunting in a SW state, I thought that I would never have access to the book again--BUT Kathy (Grimm) Clarkgraciously allowed me to make a copy of her book. Lillian Olive Grimm married Mother's first cousin, Truman White Grisham. Many of the Horn descendants are included in cemetery records on my gazetteer of Hamilton County, TX. Both Lillian and Randall lived with Laura Horne Cambron for a time and Randallremained there until he went treasure hunting. My Stephen Crain was an older brother of Ambrose Hulon Crain, Sr.--father of Maj. James Burditt Crain. Both Stephen and Ambrose Hulon were sons of Joel and Rachel Crain. It has been our impression that wherever the sons of Joel went, they each felt that itwas their individual responsibility to keep busy the clerk who recorded deedsin the courthouse. My Stephen died in Sept., 1859 (MS Mortality Schedule) in Pontotoc Co., MS. Stephen's son, Abijah Brook/Brooks "Ab" Crain was the father of James Martin Crain, who was the father of my grandfather, James WesleyCrain.
