Elizabeth Southworth's father opposed her marriage to William Fobes, and gave her her portion (of his estate) "provided she do not marry Wm Fobes, and if she do," then she was "to have 5 shillings."S2

The first rule of coaching is to tell a kid what you want him to do, because if you tell him what you don't want him to do, that is what he remembers. So people see the will of Elizabeth's father and immediately assume she married William Fobes. Perhaps it is some romantic notion of true love conquering filial duty. See the talk page for a discussion giving reasons why this marriage probably never happened. --Jrich 22:24, 9 March 2011 (EST)
