In 1886, a William Curley of Leaha applied for a dog license for his black & white cur. In 1890, he applied for a license for a brown cur, and in 1891 for a white cur. On March 28, 1907, a William Curley, presumably William, Jr., applied for a license for a male grey cur. William was not listed with his family in the 1911 Census. Had he moved away between 1907 and 1911?
In 1901, Hanora, a 45-year-old widow, and six children: William (22), Ellena (17), Bridget (12), John (10), Thomas (8), and Martin (5), were living in the townland of Leaha, in the parish of Kilbegnet, Creggs DED, Mountbellew Constabulary District. All except the youngest could speak Irish and English. They were living in a house with walls of stone, brick or concrete, a slate, iron or tile roof, with 2 rooms, and three windows in the front of the house. They had four out-buildings: a stable, a cow house, a piggery and a barn. Hanora signed the return by mark.

On April 12, 1911, Hanoria, age 57, and three of her children, Nellie (26), Thomas (19) and Martin (16) were living in the townland of Leaha, in the parish of Kilbegnet, Creggs DED, Mountbellew Constabulary District. They were living in a house with walls of stone, brick or concrete, a slate, iron or tile roof, with 2 rooms, and three windows in the front of the house. They had three out-buildings: a cow house, a piggery and a barn. The house was not on the land of a landholder. Although Hanoria is listed as married, she was a widow, as she was identified in 1901.
In 1969, Mr. John F. Donnellan asked the Minister for Lands if the Land Commission had any plans for the acquisition of the Curley estate, Leahive, Creggs, County Galway. [1]
