When William was aged 19 he was married at St David’s church in Surry Hills, NSW on 23rd November 1891 to 18 year old, Ellen Winifred (Nellie) Malone. Although they were aged 18 and 19, both William and Nellie have their ages listed as 21 on their marriage certificate. At this point in history, according to the rites of the Church of England both parties had to either be 21 or have permission from their parents to marry prior to being 21 years of age.
