    pages 1138 - 1139

Samuel Beal, a leading agriculturist of Elyria township, is a native of
Lorain county, born May 7, 1846, a son of Philip and Eva(Smith) Beal, who were
married in Germany, where three of their children were born. They came to the
United States, and settled in Lorain county, Ohio, on a farm where the father died
in 1866, at the age of seventy-seven years. They were the parents of eight
children, as follows: Eva (wife of Christopher Decker), Maria (wife of John
Kolpe), Lewis(now in Michigan), Susie (wife of C. Heeg), Paul, Mary, Moses and
Samuel. The subject of this sketch received his education at the common schools
of his native township, and was reared to agricultural pursuits. In 1870 he
was married to Miss Catherine Eppley, and eight children were born to them,
named as follows: Frank (married to Mary Barth), Cora (wife of Vernon Bender, and
has one child, Lydia), Ora, Samuel, Charles, Harvey, Earl and Elmer. Mr. Beal
owns 144 acres of land, and by industry and perserverance has accumulated a
snug competence. In his political preferences he is a Republican, and in
matters of religion he is an adherent of the Evangelical Church.
