Research notes

  • per User:Tarchon: I made massive revisions to this. The original version had Sarah (Buckner) Price as the daughter of Anthony Buckner and Sarah Ellis. This is based on a stack of unsourced speculations that have been repeated in careless genealogies, and it's almost certainly wrong. The _primary_ sources (a series of wills and real estate transactions) show that Sarah had a brother named John Buckner (d. 1752). John was mentioned as the grandson of Ann Marshall in her 1740 Stafford Co VA will, so John and probably Sarah's mother appears to have been the daughter of Thomas and Ann Marshall. Neither John nor Sarah seems to have had an especially large estate, which is a pretty sure clue that they aren't Anthony's, but we do know that John at one time owned half of the land which belonged to Phillip Buckner of Stafford (d. 1700), which is a pretty strong argument that he's the son of one of Phillip's two sons. There's also a chance that he's the son of William Buckner of Stafford (d. 1727) (probably Anthony's brother), but it's not clear how he would have come by Phillip's estate. Since noone really knows who the father is, I'm leaving it blank, but of the 4 real possibilities, Anthony is certainly the least likely.
