1850 census Annotated, compiled by John P. Alderman (1979) Thomas was born and raised just north and west of Hillsville. His parents were James and Hannah (Brown) Ogle. Thomas first married Edna P. Lewis in 1823 in Patrick Co.; after her death he remarried Mary Tipton, about 1825. Her parents were William and Elizabeth Tipton. She died in 1855 and Thomas married in 1858, Sarah Venable. He had eight children, half of whom had left home by 1850.
