[Mr.] Thomas1 Nelson, gentleman …married, second, probably soon after a marriage contract dated 15: 12 (February] 1641[/2], Joan Dummer, daughter of Mr. Thomas Dummer of North Stoneham, Hampshire, England. Joan and her two children are mentioned in the will of her father, dated 12 April 1650, proved 9 November 1650.

Mr. Thomas1 Nelson … married (2) after 15 : 12 mo 1641, Jane or Joane, daughter of Thomas Dummer of Badgely, England, and a niece of Mr. Richard Dummer of Newbury (see his bond of 15 : 12 mo. 1641 to perform marriage contract, Essex Ct. R. 9 mo. 1656). … In 1654 Widow Joane Nelson was in England, at Stoneham, County of Southampton, with the younger children. In Rowley "Book of Grants" mention is made of "Mr Nelson's Children in England" in 1661-2. NOTE: Blodgette and Jewett give this couple also a son John [130-5. John (Essex Co. Ct. Files, 3:70); d. young.] This child is not mentioned in Mr. Richardson's 1994 article and may not have ever existed.

... Thomas Nelson [b abt 1600], was born in England, date not known, and his was one of the twenty families that emigrated to America with the Rev. Ezekiel Rogers, from Rowley, in Yorkshire, in December, 1638 ...
... The maiden name of Thomas Nelson's wife was Joan Dummer, date of birth not known, and they had five children, two born in England and three here. He was made freeman in May, 1639, chosen Deputy to General Court in 1640 or 1641, and "appointed to join persons in marriage in the town of Rowley." Thus promoted to pasitions that were responsible and honorable, he seems to have gone steadily forward to prominent wealth and responsiblity. Called to England on important business, he made his will and sailed, and while there was taken ill and died in 1648. ...
