Family:Thomas Martin and Mary Dobson (1)

Children of Thomas Robert Martin and Mary L. Dobson: (1) Nancy Iris "Nannie," 10 Feb 1861 — 4 June 1880. (2) William John B., 25 Mar 1863 — 11 Jun 1937, married Nannie Betty Powell, six children. (3) Thomas Robert Martin Jr., 30 Oct 1868 — 22 Oct 1950, married Sarah L. "Sallie" Mallard,five children.

Notes: There were two men named Thomas Martin born about the same time in Wilkes, North Carolina and died the same year, 1902, who have become confused in genealogies. However, Ancestry .com user RSmith6811, a direct descendant of Thomas R. Martin, posted photocopies of pages from his family Bible. This Bible does mention John and Diana Martin as parents of the Thomas R. Martin who owned it with their birth and death dates. This proves that this Thomas Martin, who married Mary L. Dobson, and died in Caney Springs, Tennessee is the correct Thomas for this Martin family line.

The other Thomas Martin, died 21 Nov 1902 in Carroll, Missouri. His parents are unproven, since so many genealogies want to put him as the son of John and Diana Martin, that it is hard to find anything else. I did see one family tree on Ancestry that has him as son of a James F. Martin, but no sources given. That tree gave his birth as about 1820. Most every other tree I saw gave him the same birth date as Thomas Robert Martin, but the Bible proves that that birth record does belong to the Thomas who owned it. This other Thomas married 25 Sep 1838 in Wilkes, North Carolina to Martha "Patsie" Perdue / Purdue / Pardue, born April 1819, died about 1900 in North Carolina, daughter of John and Elizabeth (nee Godfrey) Perdue / Purdue / Pardue, Their children proven by census and other records were: (1) Arminda Ruth "Minda", about 1840 — after 1880, married Robert Ferree "Bob" Calloway, seven children. (2) Mary, about 1841 — after 1870, spouse and children unknown. (3) James Thomas Martin, 1 April 1843— 25 Jan 1921, married Lucy Green Chambers, five children. (4) Sarah Martin, 1845 — unknown, spouse and children unknown. (5) Tabitha Adeline (nicknames Bithy, Bitha, Addie, Ada), 18 Feb 1847 — 5 May 1933, married Lewis Franklin "Franks" Felts, no children. She was second wife and he had two children with first wife, Nancy (nee Gray). (6) William Henry, January 1849 — 5 Oct. 1928, married Sarah "Sally" Chambers, eight children. (7) Susanna E. "Susan". 22 Aug. 1854 — 29 Sept. 1934, married Emory J. Vaughn, nine children. (8) Lewis Redman, 8 Feb. 1861 — 2 Feb. 1946, married Olivia Loudentia Perdue / Pardue, twelve children.
