Sylvester and Gertrude had five children, two sons and three daughters.

A newspaper article about their wedding anniversary reads, "CELEBRANTS - Mr. and Mrs. S. C. Ryan, 2408 Priscilla Lane, will celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary with a reception from 2 to 5 p.m. Sunday at St. Andrew's Church Hall, 2610 New Haven Ave. an 11 a.m. mass will honor them at St. Henry's Catholic Church. The couple was married in St. Mary's Church June 21, 1923. They are the parents of Donald Ryan, Mrs. Lynn (Jean) Halliwill, Mrs. Charles (Joan) Gaskill, Mrs. Andrew (Virginia) Guevara and the late Richard Ryan. They have 30 grandchildren. Mr. Ryan is retired from International Harvester and Mrs. Ryan from teh Dreibelbiss Abstract Co."

He belonged to St. Henry's Catholic Church.

Sylvester was 74 years old when he died.

Sylvester's obituary reads, "Sylvester C. Ryan, 74, of 2408 Priscilla Lane died at noon yesterday in St. Joseph's Hospital. Mr. Ryan, a lifelong resident of Allen County, retired as an inspector for International Harvester Co. after 33 years' service. Surviving are his wife, Gertrude; a son, Donald C., Fort Wayne; three daughters, Mrs. Jean Halliwell and Mrs. Virginia Guevara, both of Fort Wayne, and Mrs. Joan Gaskill, Convoy, Ohio; two brothers, Byron and Thomas, both of Fort Wayne; and three sisters, Mrs. Delores Zink and Mrs. Elsie Alter, both of Fort Wayne, and Mrs. Marjorie Wagner, Monroeville. Services will be at 9:30 a.m. Saturday in Tom Mungovan Funeral Home and 10 a.m. in St. Henry's Catholic Church. Friends may call from 3 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today, with Rosary services at 7:30 p.m. today. Burial will be in Catholic Cemetery." [Fort Wayne Journal Gazette, Friday 4 Feb 1977, pg. 3C]

Gertrude's obituary reads, "Services are at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Tom Mungovan Funeral Home, 2221 S. Calhoun St., and at 11 a.m. Thursday in St. Henry's Catholic Church, 3000 block of East Paulding Road, for Gertrude E. Ryan, 79, of Fort Wayne, who died Monday in her home following a long illness. A native of Fort Wayne, Mrs. Ryan had retired in 1969 after 40 years with Dreibelbill Title Co., Inc. She was the widow of Sylvester C., who died in 1977. Surviving are a son, Donald E.; two daughters, Jean M. Halliwill and Virginia C. Guevara; and a sister, Margaret Ort, all of Fort Wayne. Friends may call from 2 to 5 and 7 to 9 p.m. today at the funeral home. Burial will be in Catholic Cemetery. Preferred memorials are gifts to Holy Sacrifice of the Mass fund or the church or Visiting Nurse Service." [Fort Wayne Journal Gazette, Wednesday 19 October 1983, pg. 3C]
