  12. The S/S Heimdal was a ship of 2,024 tons gross, 1,318 under deck and 1,323 net. (length 87,17 meters and beam 10,73 meters) Bridge deck 18 feet long and forecastle 28 feet long. Iron construction, straight stem, one funnel, three masts (Brigantine rigging), 2 decks (1 of iron &1 partly of iron), 3 tiers of beams, 5 cemented bulkheads, double bottom aft, 64 feet long, 84 tons. Midship Deep Tank 22 feet, 244 tons. Forward Peak Tank 106 tons. Aft Peak Tank 22 tons. Propulsion: compound engine with 2 inverted cylinders of 35 & 68 inches diameter respectively; stroke 42 inches; operating at 90 p.s.i.; 200 horsepower. The engine was built by Walker, Henderson & Co. in Glasgow. She had a single screw and a service speed of 10 knots.

  14. "In 1883 they came to America and made their home for a short time with Halvor Haugen, the only brother of Mrs. Vesta, near York, Jackson County. However, they soon purchased a small parcel of land at York and upon it built a house and blacksmith shop. Here they made their home for about eight years, when in 1890 they purchased the Rufus Hullett farm in Timber Creek and lived there until 1913, when the place was sold to Oscar Vesta, one of their sons. After disposing of their farm, they bought a few acres adjoining the old place and built their last home."

They traveled in steerage, and they carried 3 articles of baggage. [Two trunks are accounted for and are in the possession of various family members; it is unknown what the third piece of baggage was].
